Cowboys, Rodeo, plus images of the west and indigenous culture are dominate subjects of my galleries. However, my site is called
"Pictures West and Beyond" to indicate that my work is not limited to the above. As my site grows it will include work from other parts of the US and the world.
Rod holds a Masters Degree in Art Education from the University of Kansas and is a retired art and photography teacher. Philosophy: He describes his work with one word, Versatile. He likes photographing different subjects from nature and landscapes to rodeo action and still life. If a photo is worth printing and hanging on his wall then that's his standard. He loves black and white photography and often converts a color photo to B & W if he thinks it will look better. His latest approach to photos is to create an artistic
look by using digital techniques. Some photos look like silk screen prints with silhouettes and added color for a non traditional look.
His work was influenced as he grew up by photographers published in magazines like Look, Life and National Geographic. Ansel Adams and Eliott Porter are two of his favorite photographers along with Art Wolfe and Joel Sartore.
